In Jodhpur visit one of Rajasthan’s most magnificent forts, Meherangarh Fort. A cruise on Udaipur’s enchanting Lake Pichola will enthral you as you feast your eyes on the panoramic vistas. The highlight for some will be a visit to Ranthambore National Park, one of the prime examples of Project Tiger’s conservation efforts in Rajasthan. In Agra, view the majestic Taj Mahal as the sun is rising. With so much on offer, we look forward to welcoming TOUR ITINERARYDAYS 1-2: SOUTH AFRICA TO DELHIFly overnight with Jet Airways to Delhi for an overnight stay. DAY 3: DELHI TO ALSISARThis afternoon we leave Delhi and drive to the small desert town of Alsisar, located in the Shekhawati Region. DAY 4: ALSISAR TO GAJNERToday we head west to Gajner, stopping in the major desert town of Bikaner en route. Visit Junagarh Fort and enjoy a rickshaw ride through the mediaeval streets to the old city bazaar before we continue driving to Gajner later this afternoon. DAY 5: GAJNER TO JAISALMERWe drive to Jaisalmer this morning. Enjoy an evening visit to Sunset Point. DAY 6: JAISALMERThis morning we visit the fort built atop the 80m-high Trikuta Hill. Later in the afternoon visit the Sam Sand Dunes in the Thar Desert and take a camel ride along the sand dunes to view the sunset. DAY 7: JAISALMER TO MANVARDrive back into the Thar Desert to Manvar. This afternoon experience a camel and jeep safari to local Bishnoi villages to meet the locals. Tonight we will have a memorable stay in a tented camp in the desert (Manvar Resort is used if camp unavailable). DAY 8: MANVAR TO JODHPURToday we leave our camp and drive to Jodhpur, located on the edge of the Thar Desert. DAY 9: JODHPURThis morning we visit Meherangarh Fort, one of the most impressive complexes in Rajasthan, followed by the museum located in the Umaid Bhawan Palace. Later we take an auto rickshaw ride to a local restaurant for lunch before walking through Subji Mandi, the local vegetable and spice market. DAY 10: JODHPUR TO UDAIPURAfter breakfast we leave Jodhpur and continue our journey as we travel to Udaipur. We visit Ranakpur en route, home to the largest Jain temple complex in India dating back to the 15th Century. Enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Pichola this afternoon. DAY 11: UDAIPURToday we visit Sahelion Ki Bari Gardens (the Garden for the Maids of Honour), the Folk Museum and Mewar Art Gallery. After lunch visit the City Palace and walk through the local streets and shops. This evening enjoy an enchanting dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 12: UDAIPUR TO DEOGARHWe drive to Deogarh today. Enjoy an evening walk through the colourful and bustling streets of the village taking in the sights and sounds of rural India. DAY 13: DEOGARH TO PUSHKARTransfer to the railway station this morning and enjoy a short train ride on a rural 1930s train to Phulad from where we continue by road to Pushkar. Enjoy a walking tour of the market this afternoon and visit one of the temples by the lake. DAY 14: PUSHKAR TO JAIPURToday we leave Pushkar and continue on our journey as we travel to Jaipur. This afternoon visit the Maharaja’s City Palace, part of which is still in use, and Jantar Mantar, the largest stone and marble crafted DAY 15: JAIPURStart today’s touring with a photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds). Continue with a visit to the palace and fortress at Amer before learning about printing and carpet weaving. Later this afternoon we shop at Choti Choper, before enjoying traditional dancing and dinner at a local restaurant this evening. DAY 16: JAIPUR TO RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARKToday we travel to Ranthambore National Park, one of the prime examples of Project Tiger’s conservation efforts in Rajasthan. This afternoon we enjoy a canter safari around the park. DAY 17: RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARKEnjoy a morning and an afternoon canter safari around the park today. DAY 18: RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK TO AGRAThis morning we transfer to the railway station to board our train to Bharatpur. After lunch we continue by road to Agra stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, a fortified ghost city. DAY 19: AGRAEarly this morning we view the Taj Mahal as the sun is rising. Later we visit a marble factory to see traditional stone inlay work and Agra Fort. DAY 20: AGRA TO DELHIThis morning we leave Agra and drive to Delhi. Later this afternoon we visit the 12th Century Qutab Minar and the Lotus Temple before stopping at Connaught Place Markets for some local shopping. DAY 21: DEPART DELHIVisit Old Delhi this morning; see the Red Fort, walk through Chandni Chowk to Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque and have a photo stop at India Gate. Late transfer to Delhi airport to board our overnight flight to South Africa. DAY 22: ARRIVE SOUTH AFRICAArrive home this morning. |
